Toro keeps London Stadium in top condition in big transitional phase
Background
Formerly known as the Olympic Stadium, when the London Stadium transformed into a multi-use venue in 2016, becoming the new home of West Ham United FC and the National Competition Centre for athletics in the UK, it needed reliable machinery to support the reopening and in its transition into its new phase of life.
Brief
Greg Bolton, Head Groundsman at London Stadium 185, the company in charge of managing the Stadium at London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, and his team of three groundsmen needed a boost to their machinery fleet used to maintain two grass pitches, a community pitch with a running track outside the stadium and the main pitch inside the stadium.
They were working around a big transitional phase and a diary full of world events to prepare for such as London Anniversary Games and West Ham’s UEFA Europa League qualifying so time was of the essence.
Results
The club boosted its fleet with a little bit of everything: mowers, aerator, sprayers and utility vehicles.
Specifically, the Toro ProCore aerator impressed Greg: “It is equally effective for spot areas as it is the entire pitch”, and while new to Greg and the team the Multi Pro 1750 sprayer is as impressive: “It’s easy to use, speedy to spray and offers fantastic flexibility. We use it for spraying a multitude of chemicals and there have been no issues with it blocking up,” he notes.
The communication and efficiency of the Reesink team was highlighted as being “brilliant”.
Conclusion
As the only venue in the UK able to host both world class football and athletics events, Greg and his team had a big job on their hands, but one that was made both quicker and easier with the help of Toro.
