turfRad is a remote soil moisture sensing system that revolutionises irrigation with real-time, actionable insight into turf conditions without disturbing the playing surface.
Mounted directly onto Toro equipment, each durable, waterproof sensor collects up to 10 moisture readings per second during routine mowing, generating roughly 10,000 data points per fairway without changing the way you manage your turf operations.
Developed by TerraRad, turfRad’s miniaturised sensing technology is borrowed from climate science and uses passive radiometry to detect microwaves naturally emitted from the soil. This enables accurate measurement of moisture within the top four inches of the root zone.
By capturing subsurface moisture data, turfRad helps identify turf stress and uneven moisture patterns early, well before visible symptoms appear. The result is more precise irrigation control, improved water efficiency, and consistently healthier turf compared to traditional surface-based sensing methods.
